Mahmoud El-Khamry

El-Khamry obtained his LL.B. with honors from the Faculty of Law (English Section), Cairo University. He also obtained a diploma in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo. He holds a Master's degree in Public and International Law from Cairo University (ranked 1st), an LL.M. in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London, and a certificate in Contract Law from Harvard Law School. He also completed an intensive course in Critical Thinking and Legal Writing at Queen Mary University of London. He specializes in dispute resolution, with a particular focus on investor-State, inter-State, and commercial arbitration before leading arbitral institutions. El-Khamry has worked on cases conducted under the auspices of the ICC, CRCICA, and DIAC, and has represented clients in investment arbitration proceedings under the ICSID Convention and the OIC Arbitration Rules. His experience also includes representing clients in proceedings for the setting aside of arbitral awards before national courts, managing both strategies to defend arbitral awards and to seek their annulment. He also sits as an arbitrator. El-Khamry's recent experience includes a particular focus on arbitrations in the energy, tourism, construction, and hospitality sectors. He actively contributes to M&A transactions, including the drafting of high-profile energy and hotel management agreements, and has assisted in conducting a significant number of due diligence exercises across various sectors. He also has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting construction and project agreements. Prior to joining the firm, El-Khamry was an associate at a top-tier arbitration law firm in Cairo, after which he was appointed as a Judge at the Egyptian State Council. In 2022, El-Khamry was selected by the Africa Arbitration Academy to participate in its Flagship Training Programme. He has received several awards and distinctions, including the Chevening Scholarship and the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship. In 2023, he was awarded the Rising Star Award in Arbitration by The Law magazine. He is a member of the African Young Arbitrators (AYA), the International Bar Association (IBA), the Young International Arbitration Group (LCIA), YSIAC, and the Egyptian Bar Association. His working languages are Arabic, English, and French.
